The Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa have opened a new call for aid to promote the installation of renewable energy in homes, companies and other buildings.

Subsidies for solar panels in Lanzarote 2026 have a budget of 500,000 euros and can cover up to 50% of the cost of the installation, with a maximum of 3,000 euros per project.

These aids may be requested by natural and legal persons who carry out the subsidible action in Lanzarote or La Graciosa.

Applicants must be aware of their tax and Social Security obligations, prove their relationship with the property and comply with the other requirements established in the bases. Buildings affected by an urban discipline file are excluded.

Each applicant may submit a single project within this line of aid.

The call includes new installations, extensions and renovations with a power of less than 10 kW. Completed facilities are also eligible for aid, provided that the action has been carried out from October 11, 2025.

Three modalities are established:

• Installations isolated from the network: For photovoltaic or wind installations in buildings not connected to the electricity grid. The aid will be 2,000 euros per kW installed.
• Facilities connected to the grid: For self-consumption photovoltaic systems connected to the grid, including new installations and extensions. The aid will be 1,100 euros per kW installed.
• Installations connected with batteries: For self-consumption facilities that incorporate energy storage. The aid will be 1,500 euros per kW installed.

In the three modalities, the subsidy may not exceed 50% of the eligible cost or the limit of EUR 3,000 per installation.

Among the accepted expenses are solar panels, inverters, structures, batteries, regulators, electrical protections, connections and other elements directly related to the installation.

• First home: 100 points.
• Another type of building: 50 points.
• New installation: 100 points.
• Extension or renewal: 50 points.
• Large family: 50 points.
• Applicants not obliged to file the tax return for low incomes: 50 points.

If two files obtain the same score, preference will be made to the one that has been presented completely previously.

4. Required documentation

• The request must be accompanied by the official annexes, explanatory report, expense budget, budget or invoice of the installation, documentation of the authorized installer and accreditation of the relationship with the property.
• Depending on each case, the certificate of habitability or license of first occupation, authorization of the community of owners, title of large family and income certificates may also be requested.
• Applications are processed through the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, both electronically and in person by appointment.

The new Law 6/2025 on Sustainable Management of the Tourist Use of Housing is already in force in the Canary Islands. This regulation introduces new conditions to develop the holiday rental activity, including certain requirements related to energy rating and the use of renewable energies.

The homes that were already operating do not all have to be adapted immediately. The law establishes a transitional period that, depending on the situation of each property, can be extended for five years. Therefore, it is important to check in time which regime applies to each home and what actions could be necessary to maintain tourist activity.

Although there is usually talk of a moratorium, legally it is a transitional period.

Holiday homes duly authorized before the entry into force of the law that cannot benefit from the consolidated tourist use regime may continue to operate for five years under the previous conditions. This period ends, in general, in December 2030.

In certain cases, an extension of up to five additional years may be requested, but it will not be automatic: it must be justified and approved by the corresponding council.

The owners who are also owners of the farm may study the possibility of requesting the declaration of consolidated tourist use. Each house must be analyzed individually, since the age of the registration, the ownership, the municipal planning and the existing documentation can change its situation.

Homes that need to obtain a new tourist authorization must comply with the technical and energy conditions established in current regulations

Minimum energy rating

The law establishes a minimum energy rating F for buildings legally existing before December 31, 2007 and a minimum rating D for subsequent ones.

A home that does not reach the required rating may need energy improvements before submitting a new responsible declaration.

Production of hot water with renewable energies

Homes prior to 31 December 2007 must achieve a minimum of 70% of domestic hot water production through renewable energies. For subsequent homes, the percentage increases to 90%.

This requirement can be met through solar thermal energy or other equivalent renewable solutions such as the installation of solar panels, provided that there is the corresponding technical justification.

Is it mandatory to install photovoltaic panels?: 

The law does not generally oblige all vacation homes to install photovoltaic panels. However, a solar installation will improve the energy rating and prepare the property for new requirements.

The appropriate solution (solar terminal, photovoltaic or both) will depend on the consumption, the age, the hot water system and the characteristics of each house.

Waiting until the end of the deadline can cause accumulation of requests, difficulties in finding installers and delays in adaptation.
